 Is it fair to say that not all fear in negative? by Anon on 2/25/2009 11:51:29 AM

I understand that living in fear is not productive and can actually be very limiting. I also understand that F (false) E (expectations) A (appearing) R (real) is a very real place of being. I compare living in “FEAR” as to living in a parallel universe. In our everyday reality we are living out our daily activities and at the same time we are living in your parallel universe (which for me is my mind) playing out our worst “FEARS”. In this parallel universe I play out some of my worse case scenarios (i.e., finances, job, relationships, etc.) over and over and over. Sometimes, I even experience the emotions as though the worse case scenarios have actually transpired. This parallel universe can be a fleeting thought or something I can hold on to for hours. I realize that this parallel universe can actually affect my real universe and have very negative consequences in my real universe. So, this type of “FEAR”, I will call “Negative Fear.”

Now, let me move beyond the parallel universe and ask, if all things are God, then isn’t FEAR also God? And if that is true, then could it be that God uses Fear as a way to communicate? OK, now just here my out. Imagine that, you’re deciding on whether to purchase a new vehicle or not, but you are not sure about whether you can afford the new debt you’re going to assume with this new purchase. Let’s now assume that as you contemplate your purchase, you realize you have a fear on whether you can actually afford the new debt. Could this fear actually be considered positive? By acknowledging this fear, is it not feasible that God is reaching out to you? I have heard that soldiers returning from war often say that in combat, Fear can keep you alive, which can be a total contradiction to these slogans we hear almost everyday;

Just do it
Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway
No Fear

And I realize for myself that it’s hard today to express Fear, because of the negative connotation associated with the word fear. But, is fear really just a negative or can fear be a positive also? I believe that positive fear can be a great teacher and in today’s reality, especially financial reality, fear in my opinion can also be a great motivator. Why? I think this quote speaks to me on why.

“You can’t stop being afraid just by pretending everything that scares you isn’t there.”
Michael Marshall, The Upright Man

I understand this quote to mean for me, that fear sometimes is a message, a message to do something, or sometimes not to do something. Therefore in my opinion, I deem this fear as a positive fear. I also realize by acknowledging fears I am able to categorize which fears are negative fears and which are positive fears. And typically for me, a positive fear is a message; the question is am I listening.

I felt an urge to share this and would love to get your insights on fear or anything else. I really appreciate the center and am currently taking the keys of the kingdom class, which is really an awesome experience. In the 1st chapter of the workbook it asks for commitment to share, so today I felt like sharing. Have a great day everyone.
